  • Iran advisor reveals details of US-Iran nuclear talks to Al Mayadeen
Delegates arrive at the Omani Embassy in Rome after a closed-door meeting between Iranian and US delegations to discuss Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program, Friday, May 23, 2025 (AP)

The sudden insistence by the United States on the necessity to halt uranium enrichment inside Iran only emerged after the second round of indirect nuclear talks between the two sides, Mohammad Rangabran, Advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Media Affairs, told Al Mayadeen on Saturday.

Contrary to its public statements, the US delegation adopted a positive stance during the third round, signaling the possibility of continuing the talks, Rangabran indicated.

Iran cancelled May 3 talks over US contradictions

However, he revealed that following the conclusion of this round, Washington reverted to a contradictory public posture that conflicted with their negotiation approach and declared uranium enrichment in Iran a “red line”.

According to the Iranian official, this inconsistent approach led Iran to lodge a strong protest with the Omani side, stating that negotiations could not continue under such contradictory positions, prompting Tehran to cancel the fourth round of talks, initially scheduled for May 3 in Muscat.

Rangabran said that after US calls and messages to the Iranian side, the fourth round of talks was eventually held on May 11.

He pointed out that during this session, Iran warned the other party of the consequences of persisting with this behavior on the negotiation process, and the talks took place in a noticeably "more candid atmosphere."

The Iranian diplomat pointed out that "Israel" has proven that it makes decisions on behalf of the Trump administration and is using all its capabilities to sabotage these talks.

Tehran reaffirms unyielding position on enrichment

Currently, both Tehran and Washington consider uranium enrichment a red line; however, the US' red line exists only on paper, whereas Iran’s is inviolable under any circumstances, Rangabran underscored, adding that the Americans fully understand this reality.

He further underlined that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will not yield to US pressures or their media tactics aimed at influencing the other side, affirming that Washington knows he is a seasoned diplomat who will not lose his way.

Resistance, confronting Israeli crimes at top of Araghchi's agenda

Defending the resistance, the Palestinian cause and the Lebanese resistance, and confronting Zionist crimes throughout the region remain at the top of the Foreign Minister’s agenda, Rangabran asserted.

Elsewhere, Rangabran noted that there is a difficult and challenging path ahead for the indirect talks.
